Don Meyer: Basketball Lifer

Good read on the late Don Meyer written in March as his former school, Lipscomb, prepared to play in the first NCAA Tournament in school history. Because of his success (923 career wins) and an incredible willingness to share with other coaches, Meyer is one of the most influential coaches in the game’s history.

“He’d meet a guy who was coaching his first year of seventh-grade basketball somewhere, and he would immediately ask that person, ‘What are you doing with end-of-game situations with the ball under your own basket?” said Lipscomb athletic director Philip Hutcheson, one of Meyer’s greatest players. “He would try to learn from everybody, and that’s part of what made him so good at what he did.”
