Capela: The Best/Worst Screener in the NBA

Linked below are a couple of good articles on the development of Houston Rockets center Clint Capela. It’s impressive to see how much better Capela has gotten as he’s doubled his scoring average over the course of the last two years (from 7.0 in 15-16 to 13.9 this season). The majority of Capela’s scoring opportunities come out Houston’s pick & roll attack where the Swiss native has become adept at sprinting out of the screen as soon as his man engages in the pick & roll coverage. These slips allow Capela to get behind the big and use his elite athleticism to catch Chris Paul and James Harden’s patented lobs.

“He gets it,” Harden said. “He understands it. He knows what his role is and he knows how to perfect that role and be the best he can be at that role in order for our team to be great. Some people just don’t understand that. Every night, he has to go out there and protect the rim, rebound the basketball, run the floor and finish, that’s a big role for our team.”
