Linked below is my favorite Bruce Arians article. Arians, the current Arizona Cardinals head coach, has truly spent a lifetime in the game of football and some of the funniest stories to show for it. The article has great reflections from Arians on his time spent with some of the greatest QBs in the game, what he learned from Bear Bryant, and how important it is to truly get to know the guy you’re coaching as a person, not just as a player. I highly recommend checking out A Football Life: Bruce Arians that airs on NFL Network a couple of times a week.
The previous autumn, in his second start of his rookie season, Manning had thrown three interceptions against New England. Midway through the fourth quarter of that game, he was so frustrated that he begged Arians, who was the team’s quarterbacks coach, for a mercy killing: He wanted to be pulled. “F–k no. Get back in there,” Arians said. “We’ll go no-huddle, and maybe you’ll learn something.”
