This article was actually written prior to last year’s Sweet 16, but with the Irish playing into the tournament’s second weekend again this season, I thought it was a great one to share. With Notre Dame’s continued success, you can see that a lot of the investment/accountability has remained in the program despite Grant and Connaughton’s departures. Connaughton and Grant’s “ownership of the team” is a great example of peer-to-peer leadership to share with your players. I also love the concepts of “call-outs” as a way of managing accountability within the locker room.
“It’s been unbelievable to see the transformation from last year to this year,” said Notre Dame assistant coach Martin Ingelsby. “Keeping it very simple, one of the main reasons is Pat Connaughton and Jerian Grant have taken complete ownership of this team.”
