This article about Urban Meyer’s leadership training program has been passed around the internet quite a bit, but I wanted to share it here because it’s as good of an article about culture and program philosophy as I’ve seen in a while. While hiring an outside source (like Meyer has done with the Focus 3 group) may not be an option with your budget, thinking about the leadership development of your players as intently as Meyer could pay dividends to your program. I am excited to read Urban Meyer’s book Above the Line set to be released October 27th that will detail Ohio State’s leadership and team-building lessons.
Meyer is concerned this morning because two players arrived late to a team meeting the day before. To him, the incident represents a symptom of the off-season’s most ominous opponents–complacency and entitlement.
