Written in early July shortly after Angels GM Jerry Dipoto was fired amidst a power struggle, this article does a nice job detailing the collaborative relationship Joe Maddon, the manager of the Chicago Cubs, enjoys with his front office. While Maddon speaks specifically in regards to the GM/coach relationship that exist at the professional level, I think his thoughts are transferrable to any kind of working dynamic (coach/assistants or coach/administration).
“I love that. That’s healthy,” he said. “There should be disagreements.”
That’s where relationships and trust matter, Maddon said.
“So it’s not an argument. It’s not a dispute,” he said. “It’s a nice debate. And it’s not about who’s right; it’s about getting it right.”
