As Steve Kerr went about constructing his coaching staff after being tabbed as the Warriors head coach in the summer of 2014, he wanted one of his coaching spots to be filled with an experienced and venerable coach who wouldn’t be afraid to speak his mind. He landed on Ron Adams, hiring the life-long coach away from the Boston Celtics. Adams brings many things to the Warriors including an attention to detail, an eagerness to partake in social activism, and thorough knowledge of a myriad of defensive tactics.
“I wanted a truth-teller, somebody to tell me, ‘You gotta do this, and you gotta do that,’ completely unfiltered,” Kerr says. “Somebody whose experience and wisdom made everyone stand up and listen. I knew right then that we were talking to the right guy, and I’m just thankful we have him because he’s been instrumental in all that we’ve done.”
