The Reinvention Of Greg McDermott

Fantastic article NBC Sports’ Rob Dauster on how much Creighton head coach Greg McDermott has completely revamped his offensive philosophy since taking over as head coach of the Bluejays in 2010. McDermott established himself as one of the best coaches at the mid-major level while at Northern Iowa by deploying a grind-it-out style. That system is in direct contrast to the way the Bluejays push the ball up the floor now under McDermott’s guidance.

“What I think is a great thing about college basketball and basketball in general is that there are so many different ways to be successful,” McDermott said. “Ben Jacobson is one of the best college basketball coaches in the country, but he does it totally different than I do. It works for him and his program and what they do.”
